Terrible people. Rinse and repeat.
Here’s a unicorn. My car is so shiny here, it’s so dirty now. Damn you rain!
TV update: got a new one and a sound bar & sub. The gf was not happy at first with the purchase of the latter but after hearing the tv’s speakers she came to my side of the purchase. Anyone want to buy an almost 11 year old tv that’s starting to be wonky?

That was my wife’s response when I bought a HT subwoofer on black Friday. She was all pissy for a while, but now concedes it sounds good and I got a great deal.

Can we just say that almost every commenter on a Gawker Media blog sucks? Today I learned that Jalopnik commenters are even worse. I’m STILL fighting in that Jeremy Clarkson article.

Just go to the story about the militia guy who died. People are cracking jokes and cheering about his death. Several use the word schadenfreude. Sure, the guy was a trigger happy ass, but he was still someone’s family/friend.
Gawker is full of hypocrites. They make a huge deal out of all sorts of things, but the second something bad happens to someone they collectively dislike they pop champagne.

Oh god. I think many of us may have noticed this but refused to believe or acknowledge it.
It makes sense, though - for a while now, I’ve been visiting Oppo rather than Jalopnik first, and some days I find I don’t visit Jalopnik at all whereas I used to spend a lot of time on there.
Now, I don’t even really like to comment on the FP when I do visit, and hope that someone creates an offshoot thread in Oppo so we can talk like human beings, not apes who recently found out about words and internet.
If you think about it now, most of the interesting stuff comes from the offshoot kinja sites rather than Jalopnik itself.

For your sanity you might be best to simply ignore it. Unfortunately you’ll never win with those people. You can fight until you’re blue in the face and they’ll still come back with more crap.

I used to really only read Jalopnik for QOTD and AOTD...but since those are gone (with no viable replacement), I have little reason to do more than peek at Jalopnik. And I’m so sorry I found that Clarkson article this morning.
Because I know it means absolutely nothing because it’s the Internet, but I’m not someone who sits back and says nothing when people are slathering my community all over the Internet. Especially a community in which an extremely high percentage of its members get killed or hurt themselves. I’m one of Jalopnik’s few trans readers, and one of Kinja’s extremely public trans users...and I can see why others don’t open up. It’s just not friendly. lol

Whats the fighting about?
I feel like whoever wrote that article was way too harsh on him. Like the dude has his opinions and he can say whatever he want. Who is he to tell someone to shut up?

It all started with the guy who somehow got 87 Recommends:
Flame away, but transgenderism is the only mental illness with surgical body mutilation as the “cure.”
All we hear is that people need to love their bodies (it’s ok to be fat, ugly, whatever), but if someone thinks they need to surgically alter their body and become dependent on hormone therapy for life, we all jump on board. We are humoring mentally ill people.

I’m not even going to go back there. So god damn tired of the PC bro crowd that has taken over Jalopnik. I thought Torch was a cool dude, now I can see he’s just another Gawker writer with “PC Bro” tattoo’d on his ass cheek. Like, I am all for equal rights, no matter what; disabled, gay, women, whatever we should all be treated humanely. But telling someone to shut up and then writing an OBVIOUSLY biased article flaming someone for voicing their personal opinion is wrong. And it is disgusting that some people (the petitioners) feel like they need to go as far as ruining someone and his family’s livelihood just because he practiced his fucking freedom of speech. I read what he said, and I said “hmm okay you have your points about parents consenting to children undergoing some serious surgery and drug-therapy. I see how that can be controversial, but maybe these people would feel much better and live more fulfilling lives with this surgery. And that is their choice to make and I’m sure it wasn’t easy but it is what they decided upon.”
And that is it. That is as far as I need to take it. I don’t need to go trying to ruin someone’s life for stating an opinion. And at the same time, I don’t need to write shitty Gawker articles about how transgender people should be given free surgery and hormones at taxpayer’s expense. Do I think we should subsidize transgender therapy? I don’t personally think so. But if it were to become law in a few years, that’s fine and not a big deal since I wouldn’t vote either way. America already handholds so many disadvantaged portions of the population compared to other countries. Yet it seems we are the ones who still bitch the most. No one seems to care about how much progress we’ve made and how much is right with the world. Just always something to take for granted, and always something to get worked up about.

Well, keep defending yourself. As far as I could tell you kept it civil, which is more than I can say for others. Fighting to change people’s perceptions about topics like these can be grueling but at least there were many other comments with more reasonable points of view.
At any rate, Jalopnik should just stick to cars, not tangential stories like what we saw today. I realize how foolish this hope may be, but I’m sticking with it.

If you read the full quote, Clarkson actually sort us supports us...he just said it in his normal harsh way...So the article kinda sorta has no reason to exist. I mean, I DID enjoy reading it (because I’m happy that while Clarkson is insane, at least he isn’t completely a bad guy), but yeah, idk. That said, I do like how Torch is willing to fight for us. It’s not often that a car community even wants to talk about social issues.
And even as a trans person myself, I think that allowing kids access to hormones should be restricted (as it properly is). We were all kids once, and sometimes kids hang onto an idea that they end up growing out of. As of current, you cannot get surgery until you’re 18, and in most states, you can’t even get access to hormones until 18...So I’m not sure why everyone is arguing about kids getting hormones and surgery when it’s not even allowed in the states.

Well that’s...okay I guess that kids need to wait until they’re 18 to make this big decision. I would like it if they lowered that age of consent to maybe 16 though but fine.
Why would you like Torch fighting for you. He’s doing it in the worst way possible. Attacking someone for an opinion and cutting his quotes into pieces that take it out of context to insult him on a big blog like Jalopnik.
If I wanted someone fighting for my rights, I would want them doing it right without flaming others.

Teenage (16 or something) sounds like a fine age for hormones to me. Because I mean, 18? You’re like an adult already, and that really does suck to have missed being a happy teenager.
I’m still fine with no surgeries until 18 though. Unfortunately, they do use the penis to make the vagina (and vice versa), so you literally cannot perform the surgery on a kid and expect a realistic result. So it’s best to wait until the area is mostly fully developed
I think Torch’s original intent was positive and supportive to trans people (because the Jalopnik team does actually follow my journey as well as Kat Callahan’s), just I do not agree with how he chose to do it. I’m pretty sure he could’ve found someone legitimately being transphobic (because Clarkson actually wasn’t), instead of cherrypicking a quote without context.

I think the worst article I’ve ever read was (on Jezebel?) about a women who shot herself accidentally after buying a gun for protection. Hundreds of people cheering for a gun nut getting what they deserved, including the author. But of course, they’re so civilized and sophisticated.

That’s how I read it as well - He just used the traditional Top Gear Switcharoo style. How often would they start a car review by rambling off a list of things that make it bad in a somber tone, then pull the switcharoo and show it being brilliant. Or the opposite, start off saying all good things and then add a “....but it isn’t...” and tear it apart for being terrible.
It was the same thing with the article. Just like any other bit that used the same style, it’s very easy to take half of it completely out of context.

Oh yeah. I mean I’m not super happy that Torch’s original edit took the quote entirely out of context (it only had the bad parts)...but he did do the right thing and edit in the rest, and I’m cool with that. :)
And I’m oddly quite happy that Clarkson isn’t entirely a villain. The bit where he talked about how much pain we go through really did hit home with me. He understands how stupid our battles are.

They think anyone who doesn’t support banning and confiscating all guns are gun nuts that should die.
Let’s face it though, “young man buys gun, lives peaceful and good life, dies of natural causes at 97 years old” doesn't generate clicks.

We did the before and after test of course. It didn’t sound bad, just kinda quiet, until people started talking. It sounded like Kenny from South Park then. Muffled without explanation and cranking up the volume didn’t help.
With sound bar: her “that’s a lot better”
Me “so we keep it?”
Her ”yeah”
I wouldn't call myself an audiophile by any stretch but I need to hear what people say.

tbh I’m just surprised they didn’t blame the man who sold her the gun, since suggesting a woman could make a mistake doesn’t seem to be their style.
